A very engaging discussion. This Malcolm informative on things I didn't know about. I actually thought the US aircraft fleet, the USmilitary in general were up to date and not in crisis. good touches of humour which are needed at the moment.
By the way I'm reading an engaging book: the collapse of Global Liberalism and the post-liberal global order by. Philip Pilkington,. There are some things I don't agree with (eg seeing some left movements as just an extension of liberalism) but he still makes good sense to me. . I'm an old man whose a bit left and this is maybe a bit conservative. Still I don't agree with the dismissive comments of a proclaimed marxist about the book.
Philip is an interesting and lively analyst who doesn't suffer from the usual economist ‘‘authority’ dryness. He explains things in a down to earth and clear way that's accessible to non-economist people like me.
Always good to have Malcom to remind that the US army only has 3 canoes and 5 long rifles left.
The cruelty of the culture in the US these recent years is astonishing. It's present throughout:
-the lefties who would get someone fired and lose his livelihood for saying the n-word in a 2002 MySpace post while singing a NWA song
-the ppl who were cheering that unvaxed ppl were dying of COVID,
-a-holes being happy Renee Good was gunned down on video
-the frisson rw ppl get when they see random Latinos be deported without due process.
It's really ugly and I agree, it'll probably get worse before it gets better.

I’m not expert in this at all but he discusses it here in more detail https://americanaffairsjournal.org/2025/02/americas-national-security-wonderland/
Thanks
